Peanuts
Peanut (Arachis hypogaeo) - Stalks bud yellow flowers that arch to the ground where seed pods grow under the soil. The seed is said to be nutlike, but not a nut. Peanuts are a type of legume*. Other names for peanuts are goober peas, monkey nuts, pinders, jack nuts, manilla nuts and earthnuts. The oil extracted from peanuts is used in a variety of ways.

Warning to those with peanut sensitivity, some "pure" vegetable oils such as virgin olive oils actually may be processed in a site that also makes peanut oil. Check labels thoroughly to note whether processed in a site that also makes peanut oil. (Submitted by Julie Funk)

Some note they are sensitive to peanuts yet can eat green beans and peas without ill reaction and also include soy in their diets although all are legumes. Others with peanut sensitivity avoid all legumes (Submitted by consensus)
